The snow leopard (Panthera uncia), often called the "ghost of the mountains," is a master of camouflage, blending perfectly into the rocky landscapes of Central and South Asia. With its thick, pale-gray coat, long tail, and piercing green eyes, the snow leopard is built to survive in harsh, high-altitude environments.
Snow leopards are solitary and elusive, preying on ibex, blue sheep, and smaller mammals. They are also known for their incredible agility, capable of leaping great distances to capture prey. Unfortunately, habitat loss, poaching, and climate change threaten their populations. Conservation initiatives aim to protect these majestic animals through anti-poaching efforts and habitat restoration.
